PUT FAMILY BUDGET FIRST.
I decided to get involved after the last legislative session. I saw state government that was supposed to grow at about a billion dollars, a 3% increase in State spending. I saw a two billion dollar surplus, legislators giving themselves a raise, spending the entire surplus and raising taxes on hard working people. If you Vote Lotts on November 4th I will put the family budget first! I feel the legislature needs to move in a fresh new direction — a direction that respects you, the taxpayer.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Just as families must live within their means, Gene believes our state leaders must do the same. In 2007 the state increased spending by 9.8%, adding 3 BILLION dollars to the budget, leading to a budget shortfall of 900 million dollars in 2008.
TRANSPORTATION
Minnesota's productivity should not be wasted burning fuel and time on metro congestion. Transportation issues of bridges and roads should be addressed FIRST.
TAXES/JOB CREATION
We can grow our economy and tax revenues by creating jobs and encouraging small business growth. Gene will challenge the old school politicians who want to tax and spend. Government pockets should grow as the taxpayers' pocket grows.
EDUCATION
We must correct our formula that creates large funding disparities between school districts. We must ensure the dollars from taxpayers are spent wisely. As a Lawmaker, Gene will see that students receive a quality, cost-effective education that will prepare them for the world ahead.
